Choosing               a               college               or               university               can               be               a               daunting               process.

Guidance               counselors               can               provide               purely               statistical               information               about               most               universities,               but               rarely               know               more               intimate               details.

College               fairs               provide               significantly               better               information,               but               that               information               is               only               available               if               a               specific               university               attends               a               specific               fair.

Even               campus               tours               tend               to               be               light               on               truly               useful               information               for               potential               freshman.

If               you               are               considering               applying               to               or               attending               Carnegie               Mellon,               the               following               are               the               top               reasons               to               attend               the               university.
Classes               Are               Very               Difficult               -               This               may               sound               ominous,               but               this               is               actually               a               good               thing.

Many               top               tier               universities               are               accused               of               grade               inflation,               which               means               they               give               higher               grades               than               students               actually               earn.

The               benefit               of               grade               inflation               is               that               students               have               a               higher               GPA.

The               disadvantage               of               grade               inflation               is               that               students               have               not               learned               as               much               information               in               school.

If               you               are               willing               to               put               in               the               effort,               you               will               simply               learn               more               information               and               more               useful               information               than               you               will               at               many               comparable               universities.

If               you               don't               enjoy               hard               work,               then               Carnegie               Mellon               is               not               the               college               for               you.
Job               Placement               -               Carnegie               Mellon               has               some               of               the               best               job               placement               resources               in               the               field.

From               the               first               day               you               are               placed               in               TartanTrak,               the               computer               system               that               monitors               your               progress               and               helps               match               you               with               potential               jobs.

Job               placement               services               are               available               to               all               students               free               of               charge               and               continue               to               be               available               after               graduation.

Additionally,               Carnegie               Mellon               holds               multiple               career               fairs               throughout               the               year               and               hundreds               of               prospective               employers               visit               campus               regularly               seeking               both               job               candidates               and               interns.

These               employers               are               familiar               with               the               high               difficulty               of               the               classes               and               know               that               Carnegie               Mellon               students               tend               to               be               successful               in               their               fields.

Additionally,               software               giant               Google               has               a               major               office               about               3               miles               from               campus               and               has               a               large               number               of               Carnegie               Mellon               graduates               on               staff.
Flexible               Majors               -               Carnegie               Mellon               is               consistently               among               the               top               20               universities               in               the               country               in               three               majors:               computer               science,               fine               arts,               and               psychology.

This               remarkable               disparity               in               specialties               is               reflected               at               the               student               level               as               well.

For               example,               Carnegie               Mellon               is               one               of               the               few               schools               in               the               country               where               you               can               get               a               major               in               computer               science               and               a               minor               in               creative               writing.

Additionally,               Carnegie               Mellon               has               some               degrees               that               actually               combine               fine               arts               and               technical               majors               into               a               single               major.

Finally,               the               graduation               requirements               for               any               given               major               can               be               modified               easily               by               adviser               consent,               allowing               you               to               effectively               create               your               own               course               of               study               if               you               take               the               effort               to               do               so.
Carnival               -               At               first               glance,               it               can               seem               that               academics               are               the               only               thing               that               is               important               at               Carnegie               Mellon.

Nothing               could               be               further               from               the               truth.

Carnegie               Mellon               has               a               rich               extracurricular               culture.

But,               no               single               activity               at               Carnegie               Mellon               is               more               exciting               than               Carnival.

Every               year,               in               the               spring,               the               students               and               administration               run               a               four               day               extravaganza.

Carnival               includes               activities               like               buggy               racing,               live               bands,               comedians,               carnival               rides,               and               a               booth               building               competition.

It               is               a               major               event               for               both               students               and               alumni               alike.

Best               of               all,               the               majority               of               events               are               free               or               cheap               for               current               students.
