About 'accredited online masters programs in psychology'|Earning An Online Masters Degree In Psychology
It is no secret that the economy isn't what it use to be, job security is almost a thing of the past under today's economic hardship so how can you give yourself an edge? If you've been considering going back to school but the idea of sitting in a classroom surrounded by 18 to 21 year olds is not that appealing you may want to consider getting your degree online. Most schools are beginning to offer classes to busy working adults who don't have the time to get to a campus. There are many schools you can choose from which is evident by doing an online search but you want to make sure you pick the school that best fits your needs. When looking for an online school the first thing you want to check on is accreditation. If a school is not accredited you will be investing both time and money into a bogus or fraudulent university. In layman terms the degree you worked hard to obtain is useless. You can find out if the school is accredited by contacting the Higher Learning Commission. To obtain accreditation a school has to meet certain criteria. So anyone can't just get in by paying their way through. Now that you've verified the list of schools you are interested is in fact an accredited University or college you can now decide on which school. To help you determine which school you'd like to go to there are many factors. The first factor to consider is if the school offers the program you're interested in studying. Many schools will offer programs that are not the exact field your trying to get into which may be because the program requires hands on learning. Read the descriptions offered for each program and don't settle for something close to it if you may regret it later. One major that requires hands on learning includes Clinical Social Work. However you can choose to get a bachelor in Psychology and go a University for a Masters degree in Social work. You can then get your hands on experience through the internships included in the Masters Degree program. Another thing to consider when picking an online school is how long you will have to attend the school. Most online bachelor degree programs offer five week classes. You can also get done faster if you have more than 60 credits that are transferrable toward your degree. Another way to accelerate your degree is by taking CLEP test. CLEP test are complex test that are given at a chosen institution and will count as three credit hours to go toward your degree. Each school is different and may not accept this test so check it out it can save you thousands of dollars as each test is under $200 so it's an economical way to help you achieve your goals. Financial aid is pretty much the same with online schools as it is with a traditional university or college. You need to fill out a FAFSA and supply them with a school code for your chosen school. You will want to make sure that if you are applying for financial aid that you need to get it in on time. Most enrollment counselors will help you walk through the process if you are unsure of what you need to do. Another benefit to attending an online school is the waived application fee. Some schools may also include the cost of your books into the tuition cost which helps tremendously. There are both pros and cons to go to an online school so I'll start with the pros first. Pros You can log into class at any time of the day to meet attendance and participation. Though there are set days you need to hand assignments in you have all day before you have to do so. You can hand assignments in early if you like to be on top of things You can wear your pajamas or the old tattered house robe you wouldn't dare let anyone see You can eat and drink in this classroom because it's at your computer desk and no one will know. If you talk in class you won't be told to be quiet and listening to music is also allowed You can still go to a commencement ceremony with regalia and all if you care to travel You avoid traffic or a long commute to get to a traditional campus Cons If you have a question for the professor you have to wait for an answer Your computer can never crash or lose its Internet connection or you'll be visiting your folks or worse the time restricted library Like a traditional school you have to wait for your grades to post After weighing all of your options on going back to school you may find that the pros far outweigh the cons. So do a search and give considerable thought to the school that will be the right fit for you and your long term needs. |
